Is that Flávio Bolsonaro instead of Leonardo DiCaprio on the poster for Catch Me If You Can? In the wild world of Brazilian political memes, yes.

After Bolsonaro disappeared from public view following a shock loss in last weekend’s presidential election, and as speculation swirled over the circumstances surrounding his dramatic dash to the US, Brazilian social media seized the moment. And the memes are proliferating.

One turned the search for the defeated conservative into a Where’s Wally?[1]-style illustration. A few minutes later, he became Carmen Sandiego, the title character for the video game Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego. Then came a new nickname: “Flyvio.”

  1. for some reason I once learned but have since forgotten, Waldo is only the U.S. version ↩︎

Bolsonaro’s campaign slogan changed from “God, Country and Family” to “Adiós, Country and Family!”

Wrong language, but close enough lol. Not Brazilian (I’d love someone who is to verify this), but from what I can see online, you probably want “adeus” (or “tchau”?).

Yes, you are correct. The original Portuguese was Deus to Adeus but I was using words within the common English vernacular and I think it keeps the connection better than bye/farewell.
