After 12 years, the old one would hold a charge for less than two minutes.

I planned to replace the battery, but videos of the process convinced me that it was a bad idea.

Good job getting decent life out of it. NotNow you can finally upgrade to something like the new Dyson toothbrush for £420 with a camera, internet connection and AI.

Oh I’ve heard about the ones with AI! They record your saliva hormonal composition and chemically castrate you while correlating your heartbeat to any information active on any screen or speaker it can connect to to formulate the most accurate psychological and ideological evaluative profile on you, to be traded to every single company and government on Earth and control your DNA in a quantumlogical heritage matrix

So just stick it in your mouth and don’t worry! It’s just a toothbrush!

Hah! I carefully looked at the models available to find out which was the highest-end that didn’t have “AI,” Bluetooth, a phone app, or any of the other garbage.

nice. The bristles on mine fall apart after around 3-4 months. Non-electric. Good job not starting a fire

    And that’s entirely by design.

You can buy the AA they sell literally right next to the charging ones. Not everything is some grand scam.

No, but disassembly can be very risky by way of snapping retainer tabs, especially on anything meant to be waterproof and seamless tot eh touch. As good as I’ve gotten over the decades, such things always tend to show dents and scrapes from my pry tools. But I can also commit to that risk as well as the compromise that I may have to glue it together after the fix, making it a final fix.

It’s not the battery (although it does take an uncommon battery, a 14500), it’s the disassembly.

You need to soak the base in hot water to soften the plastic clip, then use the charging stand to break the seal and open it up. Once open, there’s a delicate metal brackets to unclip and remove. At that point, you need to desolder the battery and the motor, and then start to work on the plastic brackets. This is less than halfway through the process, and it’s likely broken.

Some things are extremely repair-hostile. I’m not happy about it, but I’m not going to spend half a day attempting a very unlikely repair.

Good info thanks. I’m approaching the same decision. There’s also some cosmetic damage on mine, but not enough by itself to spend the money

Take a look for videos. Some are relatively straightforward. Unfortunately, we had one that wasn’t.

Honestly, a new one was only 65 bucks CDN. The profit is all in the heads now, just like razor blade cartridges.
