this looks like an AI pic of musk as if he knew how to smile like a real human. it is missing his traditional k-hole assymetry of his wonky expressions, staring off into random points on the wall. like a mask of a human that doesnt quite fit.

Musk could have just set the $400 million dollars he gave to Republicans this election on fire rather than back Trump again.

Musk and this new batch of billionaires (essentially the entire plutocratic class) got rich through financialization. Unlike the railroad barons and gilded age industrialists, they did a whole lot less producing things of value and a whole lot more rent-seeking. That is to say, they hacked the economy to get fake-rich, and also bribed government officials to keep such hacking legal. (Seriously, they pushed to reverse laws to stop them from doing shit.)

Money in the US remains entrenched, and so long as it is, it cannot operate in good faith to serve the public good. We can have self-government, or we can have billionaires. We can’t have both.

This batch, however, is a catastrophic existential risk to the human species. They just can’t help themselves, and admit as much, investing not-small amounts into apocalypse shelters anticipating the collapse of the civilization on which they depend. Rather than, say, using their vast gains intelligently to keep the system going.

Because I like to offer deep dives, Demonetized (a spin-off of How Money Works) did a deep dive on why billionaires are so crazy. And How Business Worked (another spinoff of HMW) did one on why the uber-wealthy historically collapse civilizations they depend on.

In the meantime, now that Texas has a blue governor and a blue AG, Musk is going to have a lot of work cut out for him since he used bribes and lies to bypass zoning restrictions for his rocket launchpads, and they’re shaking apart the homes of nearby neighborhoods. He really is worse than Blofeld or Luthor.

The weird thing about it all is how inevitable it always was. Texas went out of its way to attract tech companies, tech companies attracted educated people, educated people vote Democrat.

Kinda. Tech is kind of the exception to that. There are a LOT of right wing tech workers. The whole “stem is the only real degree” crowd that believe you shouldn’t need to learn any liberal arts in college for a STEM degree, and who support right wing causes like protecting wealth because they make a ton of money.

A lot of those are the ones that made the jump to relocate from places like California.

i know 2 people in tech that are very close to becoming R voter, if not for living in a blue area, and plus minorities tend to vote D. Gym goers, check, tech, watches joe roegan, MMA, check, 1 Uses AI heavily. they arnt giving up thier 150k-300k/ year job for higher taxes, and they always complain about paying taxes.

i always suspected some tech workers are Republicans in the “closet of being republicans”, plus the tech people flooding to our tech central were always transplants anyways, from more conservative states.

          Reminds me of Trump.

          Trump knowledge

During an October 2026 campaign rally in Ohio, he stated, “I know more about everything than anybody in this room, anybody anywhere in the world,” though he briefly considered that a local housewife might know more about business than him. The Military & ISIS: Claimed to know more about the military and ISIS than military generals. Taxes & The Tax Code: Claimed to understand the tax code and tax laws better than anyone who has ever run for president. Lawsuits: Declared himself “the king” regarding lawsuits and legal matters. [ Infrastructure & Renewable Energy: Asserted he knows more about infrastructure and renewables than any human being on Earth Drones & Technology: Stated, “I know more about drones than anybody,” alongside claims about tech and safety systems Grass & Golf Courses: Claimed in 2025 that he knows “more about grass than any human being” due to owning golf courses globally Other Subjects: Additional topics have included Facebook, polls, the “other side” of politics, steelworkers, campaign finance/contributions, and the word “apprentice”.

I think the medical industry in the U.S. is a gopd example of this, everywhere else its a vocation, paid well after a career of climbing the skill tree but almost never a path to excessive wealth. Except in the U.S. where doctors will betray their duty of care for a huge pile of opioid money.

its the sackler, the MDs are just thier 'low level drug dealers they use as scapegoats. only a handful of health roles pay handsomely. MDs(the more uncommon the specialty the more pay), Nurses/LVNs, radiology techonologists(apparently its not a technician qualification, its more advanced, but does not require a degrees worth of classes) but very convoluted process of getting this job, CLS, requires significant investment in degree, preferabally something to do with labs/research, aka niche bio degrees. extremely cheap grad program though, hence why its so competitive(due to low amount of programs out there, and the cls instructors willing to teach such a class(same goes for rad tech).(because it mostly uses state universities rather more expensive and private universities)

As a software guy in the Bay Area, it’s nowhere near as cut and dry as you make it out to be. All the evil shit tech companies do isn’t actually programmed by the billionaires, it’s programmed by normal people with educations that believe they will deeeeeeefinitely be the next billionaire.

Yepper, my dad is now long retired, but he was an old school programmer that kept legacy banking systems in the US alive, running in parallel with newer ones (in case the shit hit the fan on the new ones). Though not American, he’s a big Trump fan and definitely would have voted for him if he could have, even though he himself admits its a good things he retired and returned home before Trump became president, because he would not have gotten his US work visas under Trump.
