I would only consider one if under 20k brand new, and even then I’d have to consider it long and hard.
Owning a car you cannot repair, and are completely dependant on a bunch of proprietary software/parts is a very very sketchy place to be.
Now, in a bid to reignite sales, Tesla has reversed course. The Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive now has a starting price of, according to the company’s website, $64,990—a full $20,000 less than its peak. The likely explanation for this dramatic reversal is a major strategic pivot: the new, cheaper Model Ys are reportedly being imported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany, allowing the company to bypass the steep tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles.
Funny how tariffs work. Trump thought he’d incentivize U.S. production, but in this case he’s displacing U.S. production with German production.
Not necessarily how tariffs work if implemented sensibly on select goods you want to keep domestic, but there’s nothing sensible about how Trump is doing it.
It is not just the tariffs. The fact that Musk is a giant a hole might have more to do with it. The same reason I won’t get starlink.
I’m amazed at the number of people around me that are willing to buy internet from a Nazi. Kind of important infrastructure to so willingly outsource to another nation, let alone an actively hostile foreign oligarch (Musk).
Meanwhile I’m just left questioning why koodo still doesn’t offer 5G home internet in BC years after rolling it out to most other provinces 🙄
I’m more understanding regarding Starlink, because for a lot of people in the boonies it is a lot better than any of the alternatives. There is competition brewing, but right now there’s little choice.
But if you’re buying a Tesla in July 2025 you are making a statement, and it’s not a flattering one.
Or a Powerwall for my house.
Not because it’s 3x the cost of every other home battery system?
The only desperate move I want to see from Kaptain Ketamine is removal of his e-waste from Canada in perpetuity.
It could be free and I wouldn’t drive one.
It could be free and I’d gut it for parts, though
If I got a Tesla for free I’d talk to the local fire department and donate it as training material for putting out lithium fires.
“as its sales suffer from the fallout of Donald Trump’s trade war”
I doubt that’s the only reason. The article then goes on to quote Tesla fans from X. 🙄
There’s also THE USA THREATENED TO ANNEX US AND CALLED OUR PRIME MINISTER A GOVERNOR.
I don’t think many Americans realize how deeply that cut.
So many of my Americans friends are like: “it was old news a while back, you guys are still hung up on it?”.
I’m like … dude …
A lot of people aren’t going to the states because they’re afraid of ICE. I’m not going because they threatened my country and mocked it. Then I see Americans lay back and go “why you taking it so seriously?” or even worse is when I see interviews of them accusing us of taking advantage of America and joke about us being the 51st state.
That’s the way that abusers talk to their victims.
There is so much going on that it seems like it’s old news, but had it even been a month?
This won’t work because of how Elon greets his crowds at rallies with a “verboten” salute. Does he not see?
making a dramatic pivot, creating a bizarre pricing situation and leaving recent buyers with a serious case of regret.
Don’t worry, it gets worse.
