If you want me to work don’t stick me in an uncomfortable chair with no privacy under florescent lighting.

Force is the last refuge of everyone. What is weird is when people that one would expect to be powerful resort to it.

RTO should be considered constructive dismissal if the order is rolled back within a year like several corporations have done.

I’m not sure I agree with that. I suspect that the practical effect of that for most orgs that issued a RTO would be to either defer rescinding the order (by just looking up the relevant timeframe, and putting the rescinding day on the calendar) … or just wholesale not rescind the order at all until they’re getting ready to pretty up the company for sale.

Both of those pass the harm along to the employee.

Instead, if we ever get to pass legislation on the subject - add bonus pay to work that requires physical presence, like overtime, but specific-where. Suddenly, RTO will become magically unnecessary, probably uncouth too. And if minimum wage on-location service workers accidentally get a well-overdue pay bump, … they deserve it?

in my organization, the last few years has meant a lot of new hires that always worked from home andour staff grew beyond what we had. now we only have a couple hotel spaces at the office. our “ceo” is enforcing the policy that is on paper, from years ago.

it’s effective in October and already people are quitting or worrying about where they are going to sit. i have an office and probably don’t need to worry because of seniority but… what a cluster fuck

Those things on the right are still just tools to make you more comfortable in order for you to stay longer and generate more work for them.

Management are some combination of malicious and stupid.

The boss at my old job is pushing to make people go in. It’s like a 2 hour commute for half the team. He doesn’t care. He wants people working on the weekend, too

He’s an Iranian immigrant that loves musk. No one should be abducted and sent to a death camp but if they got him it would feel almost karmic.
