True, but I can’t imagine true roller skates working in a medieval context without any flat surfaces, so that made more sense to me. Plus it’s more gnome-y.

it would be funny if moving past your normal range of motion triggered a (low DC) dex check that could cause you to continue til you crash if failed.
Oh man, I’m going to use that. It’ll have to be manual while I’m DMing, but could make for a funny moment.
