    Not really, the words Meer and Ozean are used for just about every sea/ocean, except the ones Germany actually borders (Nordsee and Ostsee)

      It’s primarily a difference in gender. ā€žDer Seeā€œ (masculine) is a lake, while ā€ždie Seeā€œ (feminine) is the ocean.
      But yes, it’s much more common to talk about ā€žMeerā€œ and ā€žOzeanā€œ. Talking about ā€ždie Seeā€œ is a bit archaic and pirate-speak-ish.
