Went to a drink store (Getränke Markt) in Aachen, Germany today. To my surprise I saw that all local soda brands were almost sold out(Fritz, Afri, Sinalco) and Coca Cola was almost not touched. I was very pleasantly impressed by this. Seems like more people are joining with the small consumer choices to buy from EU rather than US. Do more people notice this elsewhere?

People have mentioned seeing this in Canada, too, but I haven’t seen it myself.

Us Canadians don’t have an alternative though, even our Canada Dry ginger ale is American. Maybe people are just drinking less pop here which would be good as well.

In small store, there isn’t much alternative. When I was young, RC Cola was there, but now its only Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

You have a few small companies colas in the grocerie stores, but they cost an arm and a leg.

I noticed that the far superior Paulaner Spezi is being bought way more. Same with Fritz. Coca Cola is almost untouched. This shift happened way faster than I expected. Good ❤️

Was just coming in to say that I have so many good memories of Aachen itself from spending multiple nonconsecutive months there on a work project.

It’s a place I associate with deepening my interest in the German language, as well as deepening my love for doner, but is also where I discovered Fritz.

      I miss Germany.

Would have loved to see that. Here at my local supermarket REWE in north Germany, I noticed a slightly similar thing, which made me really happy. Went to the beverages section, and noticed that almost all of Fritz Cola and Sinalco was gone. It was beautiful hahaha :-D Unfortunately, the next row, I still could see that also quite much Coca Cola, Mezzo Mix and Fanta was gone as well. But before, people didn’t buy that much Fritz Cola or Sinalco, now the shelfes were almost empty. Let’s continue to spread the word!

Here in southern Germany I have noticed that Coca Cola is discounted in some stores. I bought Paulaner Spezi anyway - tastes better and is more ethical.

If I was in a place that sold Fritz Cola, I wouldn’t buy anything else. It is hands down the best cola I’ve ever had.

Agree. I tried these days also Miomio Cola, 0.5 ltr, which tasted also very good and is a bit cheaper.

This will in part also be because they just stock much more Coca Cola still. With the other brands selling out they’ll be stocking that more in the future which is a great foresight!

In Denmark has a local brand, Jolly Cola, more than doubled its sales in a few weeks. They say that they are approved by a number of both former and new customers. So at least something is happening. I sincerely hope it will last!

Isn’t it just that they had less of the local drinks and more of the coca cola in stock at the back, and so when either ran out on the shelves, the only one they could easily restock was the coca cola?

That’s possible for sure. But let’s hope otherwise
