JB Pritzker said lawmakers are ‘doing the right thing’ after a group left Texas to prevent House vote on redistricting
The Illinois governor, JB Pritzker, has vowed to protect the Democratic members of the Texas house of representatives who left the state in an attempt to block Republican efforts to redraw Texas’s congressional maps.
“We’re going to do everything we can to protect every single one of them and make sure that – ’cause we know they’re doing the right thing, we know that they’re following the law,” Pritzker said at a press conference on Sunday in Illinois alongside some of the the Texas Democratic lawmakers.
The Texas Democrats fled the state on Sunday in an effort to prevent the Texas house from reaching the quorum on Monday needed to vote on a newly proposed congressional map.

Ben & Jerry’s, the brand, is owned by multinational conglomerate Unilever. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield sold it in 2000. Ben remained active on the board after the sale, and both are known to take political positions that Unilever management would prefer they not.
Actually, the former owners of Ben & Jerry’s are suing Unilever for violating the terms of the 2000 merger agreement. The original agreement created an independent board with "“primary responsibility for Social Mission Priorities and the Essential Integrity of the Brand.” Unilever has been violating that agreement [Shocked Pikachu Face] by silencing their support for Palestinian refugees and other causes.
The Vermont-based company and five directors of its independent board originally sued Unilever and its U.S. subsidiary, Conopco, in federal court in November 2024, alleging the companies had silenced its attempts to show public support for Palestinian refugees, among other causes.
Ben & Jerry’s said those actions violate its 2000 merger agreement, which created the independent board and gave it “primary responsibility for Social Mission Priorities and the Essential Integrity of the Brand.” The company has a well-documented history of outspoken advocacy, supporting causes from racial and climate justice to campaign finance reform through what it calls its “progressive, nonpartisan social mission.”
In an amended complaint filed in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, Ben & Jerry’s accused Unilever of continuing to censor its social media posts — including about Black History Month and free speech — and waging a “campaign of professional reprisals” culminating in the abrupt removal of its CEO.
good. Pritzker can be decent when it counts. i don’t live in IL but i’m not far either. seems better than my governor.
I think every accusation is a confession is a serious heuristic so when Abbott says Democrats are receiving bribes my reaction is to wonder who is paying Republicans. Republicans openly admitted to taking bribes, in their own special way, and I know others are paying attention too.
Good start (and infinitely better than the “then we’re gonna do our own gerrymander!” bullshit NY and CA Dems are apparently contemplating), but if you really feel an obligation to protect Texans you should start warming people up to the idea of having a coalition of blue state governments send their troopers into Texas to depose the tyrants an re-establish democracy, because that’s what this is gonna take

Illinois Governor isn’t going to be doing anything… The warrant is only valid within Texas. They’re not going to come to Illinois to kidnap them.
Bold of you to assume Abbot won’t send Texas Rangers to Illinois.
