      Either that or it’s proof that the people being polled aren’t aware of the differences among three disparate levels of performance in that role. One of those presidents was slightly below average at worst. One of them is, at best, the worst in half a century. The fact that they’re within ten percent of each other is pretty damning.

      I’d be okay with stricter terms limits. I’d prefer normalizing removal from office so they have some semblance of accountability. I’d like to point out that even single-term presidents have committed some pretty heinous acts, and no president in the entire history of the country has been held to account in any meaningful way. Nixon was probably the closest.

      I think we should have an annual vote to retain, with nonvotes counting as a vote for removal. Furthermore, I think the presidential powers should be rolled back a few decades. Congress needs to start reigning in the other two branches rather than hiding behind them and blaming them. We frequently have representatives and senator cheering on bills they voted against because people wanted them and criticizing bills they voted for when they become unpopular.

      I doubt there’s an easy solution for that, but if we don’t find it, things won’t get better.
