EDITORIAL. The release of the French Parliament's commission report on the psychological effects of TikTok on minors marks progress in the fight against the potential harmful impacts of social media on young people's mental health.
Power and money are easily the biggest goals and wants that lots of people have.
But I do (still) trust in the goodness of men.
I’d argue that e.g. an open source system could have a (more) benevolent cause and help someone with these problems without using data (gained) for profit.
No surveillance (or monitoring) and no data gathering means you cannot see how good/bad something (such as a behavior) is. And in such a situation it’s difficult to come up with tools to help, if there’s “no problem to give help to”.
(One can always self-monitor e.g. time spent in an app)
