English has really massacred the ability to clearly articulate concepts around biology, identifying as a boy or girl, and then having lived in such a way to have “ascended” to “manhood/womanhood”.

I think they understood you were fighting fire with fire. What they were saying is that more people get burned from fires than just the people who set them.
Misgendering someone as an insult may hurt them a little, but it hurts the non-cis community a lot.
