Science is under attack in the US. The new administration is terminating existing grants, preventing the review of new grant applications, and threatening to cut the “indirect costs” paid to universities for research. It is also firing staff at the National Institutes of Health and other agencies, reversing efforts to make the scientific workforce more diverse and inclusive, pulling out of international bodies such as the World Health Organisation, and seeking to exert greater control over universities by threatening to withdraw federal funding for research.

Science has been under attack by corporate entities for the past few decades. This is just the end game.
Under threat? Why is the news media so cautious and reserved when usually they will exaggerate anything for clicks. Perhaps they fear Trump lawsuits?
In any case, science is not simply under threat, the current scientific system in the US is being dismantled and replaced with one that is far more politically controlled and even further from scientific methods.
I’m sure there are many countries out there that would be happy to have the scientists.
When so many countries work so hard to foster this stuff it is wild to see a government actively working to destroy it. Really dark times.
