Ireland's Basic Income for the Arts experiment has given creatives a weekly payment for three years. Now, a permanent program could be on the way.

This is amazing. I think moving past the current class war era will take small, incremental steps like these. I’m almost tempted to move to Ireland. The article doesn’t mention whether this income is reserved to irish citizens.

Last time this topic came up, we learned that yes it’s only for natural-born Irish citizens. And this artist stipend has limitations. Everyone who wants this needs to apply, and only a certain number of entrants will be randomly selected.

Will this also apply to NI artists who hold an Irish passport/citizenship?

I think you also have to actually attempt to make a living with your devaluing statement of art.

If you do it, then no.
If an Irish artist does it, then yes.

You have to be a member of an artists’ association, but probably.
