The horse knows the way- my ancestors literally in their journals

Your ancestors got home from the pub passed out in the back of the wagon, knowing the horse would go home for his oats. That’s how they survived long enough to produce you.

Edit: Before that, your ancestors got to your ancestral home by making the wrong turn at Albuquerque or Namibia or accidentally crossing an ice bridge.

Horses don’t know shit about traffic delays.

Rockstar has told me that even old west cowboys had GPS.

I use my phone for navigation for a few reasons.

• It can be helpful to get rerouted on a different route ahead of time if traffic is busy.
• It shows speed more accurately (if travelling at a steady speed).
• Warn of speed cameras etc.
• It used to display a convenient “skip forward” and “pause” button for my podcasts. But for some fucking reasons Google decided to take that feature away by removing Android Auto. And alternative navigation apps don’t have it.
• It used to tell me my average speed over the journey. Which was just a pretty fun bit of data to see. (The vast majority of my drives, excluding ones after 11pm at night or which were majority on motorways, averaged less than 40 km/h.) But again, for some fucking reason, Google removed this feature, and alternative apps I’ve moved to don’t do this either.

Story tiem:

There was a guy that had a non-malignant brain tumour that destroyed his sense of direction. The guy couldn’t find his way between home and work, the same route he used for decades, without google maps telling him where to go.

I roll my eyes at my partner all the time for this. We go to like the same 30 locations for work, and they’re all off of arterial roads. When we head to the residential areas, sure, pop out the routing, but do you really need it for the obvious?

• and don’t come at me with the tripe about obstacles and delays. I’m getting paid by the hour, and the company makes beaucoups off of our work. I’d much rather sit in traffic and look around than deal with the smells when we arrive.

Navigation now knows about obstructions, slowdowns, and things that I would be aware of. I’m not just using it for navigation (though I definitely still do that cause I’m inattentive as fuck. Focused on driving, not on navigating)

I mostly use GPS to track any cops or traffic on the route, but mostly… It’s because I feel like I’m in an open world video game with a HUD map when GPS is running
