Tried to share a simple thought today… and apparently it became a full-blown controversy in someone else’s head. Words can be powerful, fragile, and occasionally misbehaving. Sometimes the wisest move is to let them do their thing and walk away.
!showerthoughts@lemmy.world is over there.
I feel like you are being unjustly downvoted. A lot of the community treats this space as a life hack / obscure knowledge exchange, but you’re just sharing something you learned today. Whether or not that information is obvious (to some), shouldn’t be used to punish engagement, in my opinion.
I’m glad you figured out what you did, when you did, because it’s a valuable skill, and it helps you be a better and more mature person.
I think they are being downvoted because it sounds like they are complaining about about repercussions from their actions. If, hypothetically, someone said something offensive/racist and got called out for it then their complaints would look a lot like this.
Your over 30 and you just realised words have different effects on people?
So at what age do you think one should realize this?> Your over 30 and you just realised words have different effects on people?
