Borderlands has always struck me as slop. Good systems but built around some of the most uninspiring design and “comedy” writing ever. I can’t imagine paying $80 for that shit, I would barely consider paying 10 in a sale, maybe if my friends wanted to play it since its a coop game.
I guess that’s what they’re counting on. Groups of friends who will play 4 player and those groups will create social pressure to cough up the money or be left out.
Not only is it slop, the whole series identity was stolen. You may remember early footage of Borderlands looking like every other brown shooter from the late 2000s
Then at some point Randy Pitchford watched the indie short animated film Codehunters and had a great idea.
It is slop, some of the most boring gameplay imaginable and a million different guns to collect to keep you playing in case you find the next one with a bigger number.
Woooah there buddy. Borderlands 2 was the shit. Rolling that Mad Max psycho Kreig and making it so that the more damage the more his damage output multiplies. Then making it so that he sets himself on fire before running into a hoard with a shotgun that shoots axes that explode into tinier axes which also explode. Borderlands 2 was a fun time. And it had drop in coop.
My partner enjoyed playing Lilith from the first game a lot more than Maya in the second unfortunately, but damn did I have a lot of fun playing Krieg. They did like their exploding axe weapon at least so there was that.
basically all the loot games are slop. I remember trying to play Diablo 4 after playing Hades at high heat. Going from that to one dodge roll per 10 seconds was pretty deflating.
Literally number go up the genre
Looks like if I want to play it I’ll “find a way” to play it that doesn’t involve giving them any money
It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve played a PC game this way. Between the $80 price tags, vile CEOs, and still dealing with Denuvo in 2025, looks like it’s time to sail the high seas again
I can’t remember the last time I shelled out money for a game, I got so sick of paying for buggy, half finished games that I don’t even own. If paying for something isn’t ownership than piracy isn’t stealing

its pretty fucking incredible that he’s still around after leaving a flash drive full of CP lying in a medieval times. the dumb shit that comes out of his mouth constantly is really just icing on that cake.
I think they proved it wasn’t actually CP. But still, using a work flash drive to store porn and leaving a work flash drive around is very unprofessional and a major security violation, and would get most of us fired. Especially since Medieval Times is not a lunch break restaurant.
i admittedly have only read the wikipedia summary to refresh my memory but it doesn’t mention any proof that it wasn’t CP, and frames that as a claim by Pitchford himself who also claimed that the reason he had the porn was to study their porn tricks for his stage magic so im not exactly inclined to believe anything he claims about it.
I don’t feel like going through the legal documents on this, but one of the sources cited on the Wikipedia summary seems to imply the plaintiff also admitted that he was exonerated there? I can’t see any information on if the case was dropped before of after E-Discovery, because if it was after, the images would’ve certainly been investigated.
Yeah, I did a little googling but didn’t come up with much more than you did. My guess is that the claims of misunderstanding were part of whatever agreements they reached to drop the case. If it was something like loli hentai he could probably still worm his way out of criminal charges even post discovery.

People forget that entertainment is a luxury not at a necessity. Also people’s wages have not really gone up in the last 12 years. I’m not saying can’t charge $80 for a video game (charge whatever you want capitalist pig
) I’m just sayin’ people probably aren’t gonna buy it day one. I’m sure there will be a spike in play of BL1/2/3/Wonderlands/Presequel on BL4’s release. I don’t think the day 1 numbers (the thing the MEGACORP ghouls care about) will be strong for BL4.The frustrating part of the boundless stupidity of Pitchford and people like him is that they are totally right. The “Real™©®” fans will buy, and then they will complain endlessly online. Also people like Pitchford are of the generation who are genuinely upset when people clown on them online. So all the complaints of the "“Real™©®” fans will fill his Twitter/Bluesky account and he’ll probably complain about it online.
The other fans probably will just not buy, or wait for it to cheaper. Especially in the modern age of gaming, you’re actually better off getting games later as they tend to be patched up and often even have new shiny gameplay updated in. For example if you bought BG3 today you’re getting a lot more (and better) BG3. Which is cool.
My point is I’m probably gonna get BL4, i’m certainly not going to get day or even year 1. Then drop that “Game of the Year Edition” or whatever with all the game in one package I’ll buy that. Or get a cracked version. Which ever comes first. Regardless the “fun” of a game doesn’t go down over time. You don’t get less game over time.
EDIT: Really sick of people online defending inflation “Well the cost of making [entertainmentProductName] has gone up a lot” is a common phrase in entertainment discourse. It’s really weird to see people want/be proud of paying more for their entertainment. I hate paying $12 to go see a matinee or pay ever paying full-price for anything.
Are companies still making record profits at the current price? Yes? Then it doesn’t need to increase.

Yeah, I havent paid full price for a borderlands game since 2, and i’m not about to go back. They’ve never been worth even the 60$. A year later, getting the “game of the year” edition for 30$ is the only way to not be ripped off, and even then.
