My point of view does not encompass the whole of my country for obvious reasons but from my subjective POV Chile feels like in the eye of a storm right now.

We have felt the empire’s boot once with pinochet; now people will clamor with candour when the imperial boot will suffocate us again but this time with a suit, tie and a fake smile in the face of Kast.

And yet, and yet i have more hope now, more than ever. The rage goes on.

“Workers of my country, I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome this dark and bitter moment when treason seeks to prevail. Go forward knowing that, sooner rather than later, the great avenues will open again where free men will walk to build a better society.”

-Salvador Allende on his last address to the nation before dying in 1973

mexican conservatives are in these contradictory position where they hate trump but they would support a military invasion of the US in mexico? They’re mad about the ICE executions and Trump condemning the victims as domestic terrorists, but they think the US military would treat us fairly?

It’s not much of a silver lining, but the general bleakness of the world lately finally inspired me to exercise for the first time in months. I wish I was disciplined enough that it didn’t take watching innocent masses bleed to get me off my ass but hopefully that comes with the endorphins

Besides here, where do yall get your news? I personally use some mainstream bourgeois sources and try to read them critically, but so much of that just feels like noise.

I do the same as you, check the bourgeois headlines and read them critically. There are also some email newsletters I subscribe to, such as Monthly Review’s mronline.org, consortiumnews.com, and Friends of Socialist China (socialistchina.org). For Palestine, my go-to source is Electronic Intifada electronicintifada.net.

Then for analysis of the news, Ben Norton’s Geopolitical Economy Report is great (though it can get repetitive if you watch every video, as he tends to go over the same information). Danny Haiphong does some good interviews, though they can be kind of hit or miss depending on who the guest is - same with India & Global Left. And of course Lemmygrad.

Edit: links were wonky so had to adjust them

dropsite and breakthrough news are solid in general imho. breakthrough is more explicitly socialist. it also depends on region: for LatAm, telesur is a good source. for Palestine, Aljazeera has good coverage (on anything else though its pretty western aligned). in the US, PSL publishes their party paper - Liberation News, but its a bit infrequent.

In my opinion, Drop Site News has some issues: they have a noticeable anti-Russia and anti-China bias, and they shill pretty hard for the U.S. socdem/demsoc politicians (Ryan Grim in particular seems obsessed with defending Graham Platner). That said, they do some great reporting on Palestine, and their Drop Site Daily newsletters can be useful for an overview of what’s happening broadly.

I kinda hate how so many libs online are having a meltdown saying fascism has started in the US now while they have been exporting death everywhere for decades and still live on stolen land acquired by genocide. It’s only them that are the targets now.

Well, that is what fascism ultimately is: imperialism turned inward.

They never had a problem with the death and destruction so long as it was foreigners dying and foreign lands being destroyed. Now it’s their coworkers and their neighborhoods and suddenly there’s an urgent, pressing concern to act. And even then they can’t find the courage to do anything more than walk around shouting dumb slogans for a few hours until the KKKops gas them.

I’ve always thought the most immoral people are the ones who ignore suffering rather than inflict it. Liberals just reinforce this belief with their every deed and action.

I think thats true for a lot of Western liberals generally. But a lot of liberals still do care about the wellbeing about people in other countries. They just have no actual comprehension about imperialism as a system and how they benefit from it as citizens of empire. Not saying their ignorance is excusable, but it’s what allows their compassion to be weaponized at whatever foreign boogeyman is next in empire’s scope. (“The Ukraine War is Russia’s fault,” “Uyghurs,” “Trump kidnapping Maduro is wrong but Maduro is still a meanie poo-poo head”)

We just entered the eleventh day of the 2026, and the USian Empire is attacking everywhere like it got rabies for sustaining its imperialism. I’m in a vulnerable place, and all I can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I find it quite disappointing when posts on Lemmygrad get deleted when they have valuable comments. Sure, the post itself might be bad or technically break a rule, but if it wasn’t removed straight-away and people already put high effort comments on it then it kinda sucks when it gets deleted.

It happened on a couple occasions before, but I was mainly referring to a post on Ask Lemmygrad that got removed today or yesterday. Though now when I think about it I’m not sure if it was removed by a mod/admin or the user themselves. Lemmy just gives me an error page.

        • The latest post removal in that community’s modlog is seven months ago. I can’t speak for individual mods, but we rarely remove posts that contain worthwhile comments. On a few occasions, a user’s posts and comments were unintentionally removed when banning them, but that will hopefully not happen again.

I assume the user themselves deleted the post in this case. The way the post itself becomes completely inaccessible after that is very unfortunate, but that’s a software rather than administration issue.

            I appreciate the clarification.

Iran is the third leg of the BMENA table, and Türkiye is the fourth leg. I don’t have anything against sovereignty of Kurdish people, but a newly found Kurdistan will be nothing but a US-Israel puppet state.

Just saw a vid of a journalist in Minneapolis who was reporting at the protests and she was wearing a bulletproof PRESS vest. How anyone can keep the facade going of the US being a stable country is beyond me.
