My main account is on gram. I look at my gram account while logged in on a local, national server. I see only a few of my posts. Same if I search for an account on a local, national server, while logged in on gram. I see fewer of their posts.

Let me preface this by saying I’m no expert: this sounds like usual Activity Pub federation stuff to me. Federation isn’t instantaneous and all-encompassing. My guess would be that you see all your gram posts that have been viewed or interacted with by people on the other instance.
