Edit: Iran’s PressTV summarized some of the more critical responses to the speech here:
I want to move to Canada now. What a wonderful speech.
We welcome thoughtful smart people.
Unfortunately we are in the middle of un-fucking our immigration system, as it’s both been misused and become a political whipping post.
Would you consider adding the link I shared at altmedia?
I added it. The big issue seems to be whether Carney’s actions will start to better match his lofty words, and there’s plenty of reason to be skeptical about this. Hearing that he joined Trump’s Gaza exploitation squad is disappointing in a way that’s starting to feel familiar with Carney. Still, for a Western leader to be that frank about the pretence of the “rules-based international order” is progress.
Eta: thank you. Apologies for my atrocious lack of manners.
It took me four decades to stop watching rhetoric and watch actions, and another decade to clear up cognitive dissonance. Only the last half decade has made me willing to fight – and suffer, if necessary, to bring my values into fruition. The cognitive dissonance I think stemmed from not wanting to admit I was choosing to be Cyril, imagining if only things were different, I would choose to be Neo. I’ve accepted that reality now.
