I stopped using my phone at all and I feel okay with it. Instead I have kindle and I’m reading a books in my free time. Of course there’s few situation when phone is needed, but in my case mostly not.

Am I the only one on the internet whose mental health is not negatively impacted by their smartphone? Like…what are you guys doing all day on these things? Nonstop scrolling political content?

Its hard to balance staying informed and staying away from political content these days.

I personally have a few key word filters on lemmy and still cant avoid all the news about whats happening in the US, Iran, Gaza etc.

I just want to know whats going on in the world so I can adapt accordingly but man its nothing but doom, depressing, downright scary times.

And I dont even have any other social media except for lemmy. I cant imagine the people also dealing with tiktok, meta and all that shit too thats designed to make you feel as shit as possible for engagement.

Yep, most social media, like Facebook, instagram, YouTube shorts, TikTok, Reddit, lemmy, etc. all of it can be quite bad. The news doesn’t help.

          exactly.

Tiktok and anything analogous is a piece of garbage, keeping you in a feedback loop, shutting your thoughts off completely, if consumed without caution. If religion is the opium for the masses, then this can definitely be categorized as crack

Oh hell yeah, they are designed to be addicting, keep you there, sell you stuff. And just like flares the first times are great! A cute anima video, some silly AI nonsense, someone making a hilarious 6 second thing. But soon, you’re just always there, looking for the high that’s just out of reach. Not to mention the propaganda you can find on them, and the algorithms drive.

The craziest part for me is how much the older generations of people are affected.

Literally the same people that accused me of being a “pc addict” back in the day, saying that i should “seek help” because its a “mentall illness”, are now non-stop watching the most ridiculous, annoying braindead slop humanity had ever seen.
