Sure it does, it makes it so newcomers can’t view the chat history, it makes less sense to encrypt a room anyone can join but it doesn’t make no sense at all.

Huh, could’ve sworn when I joined it the first time it was encrypted since it said I can’t see the history of encrptypted messages and I got “can’t decrypt message” errors a few times on my Android client.
My original assumption was that he was on lemmy.ml. I wouldn’t advocate moving to lemmy.world since it’s a very large instance, though blocking Lemmy.world can be hard since it’s a very large instance. They should absolutely block the community that banned them and any others modded by that same mod.
PTB, it’s well known that Lemmy.ml mods are power trippers and the fact that he ticked remove content on ban so the comments wouldn’t show in the log seems telling enough. It’s a well known trick mods on Lemmy use to make sure there isn’t a modlog record of the comments they removed from a person.
If I were you I’d recommend blocking all their communities and not engaging there anymore, but an even better idea would be simply to migrate to another instance and then block lemmy.ml. I’d say that’s the best thing you can do since lemmy.ml admins have also been known to power trip in similar ways.
Edit: Whoops it was a .world mod, well I think my main point still stands, would be best to block those communities.
They added it recently to the new Lemmy-UI version since it helps making it clear that someone has been banned from a community or an instance in their comments to make people aware before replying to them. It was something I suggested a while ago based on the Badges which used to be in the Liftoff Lemmy App (unfortunately now defunct).
I think either these people just aren’t aware or don’t understand that the biggest alternative will be suggested more, or they’re arguing in bad faith because they want to prevent people from leaving Reddit, something that is not at all uncommon on that sub, unfortunately.
Is the Piracy room on Matrix an acceptable place to ask for that kind of stuff? I mean it is End-to-End Encrypted. Even if it isn’t allowed there you could always ask someone else via DM on Matrix, is why I highly recommend people make and link their matrix accounts to their Lemmy profiles. You do have to know who to ask of course but these types of vague posts are great for that.
Note: Can’t use Lemmy’s built-in DMs you need to use Matrix or some other E2EE service, especially if they’re going to share direct links to you. Don’t use a corporate one like Facebook messenger or Whatsapp which is advertised as E2EE, those are a scam and they break their own encryption.
I think a lot of these people fail to realize that they aren’t Fediverse material isn’t because it’s “complicated” or “filled with linux nerds”. No, it’s because they are the people the Fediverse was created to escape, fascist right-wing extremists. It is more than natural they wouldn’t fit in here because that ideology isn’t compatible with the federated space and working together, if it was why didn’t those people build their own fediverse? I mean they tried, but not so they could connect their sites together and interoperate, only so they could try and take over our spaces, so they could try and force their messages onto us. When we blocked them and plugged our ears they gave up on Federation like that.
So it’s best to not worry too much about getting these people to join here, but rather debunking any arguments they may have against federation and its viability. The end goal isn’t to get EVERYONE* to join the Fediverse, it’s to get left leaning people and normies to while leaving all the extremists behind. At a point platforms like Reddit and Twitter become as insufferable as Gab or TruthSocial and the only real people there are the alt-right people.
Most rational and sensible Beehaw take I’ve seen yet /s
Pretty sure it’s a server default so I’m not sure it’s always intentional. It was just configured that way when they set up their server.
I think this person is either a troll or doesn’t understand the nature of these situations because Leni is, in her own words “a non-transgender woman” and also is not being slandered but has actually engaged in bad faith interactions like Nazi apologia, and literal transphobia herself.
Dragonfucker is a weird and uncomfortable situation because people were and still are misgendering them (including ironically OOP) but dragonfucker was not ejected from many Lemmy instances and communities because of their pronouns but because of misgendering, sealioning, and literal harassment of users of users.
Looking at it more I really don’t think this person is acting in good faith at all, since they chose the worst people to represent in their arguments. I absolutely do think that Lemmy, especially on bigger instances or ones with more agnostic moderation, have problems with transphobia and bigotry as a whole (especially of the thinly veiled variety). But I would never suggest that two of the most prolific trolls on this platform are innocent victims.
The ml servers should be avoid though since ml has many problems with censorship, power-tripping, and pushing an agenda.
Well they don’t have to show up as hashtags to users on Lemmy, they can show up as their own designated tags you add to the post on creation of editing. Just some form of post tags to indicate the category of a post (could even be specific to communities like subreddit flairs) but they would show up as hashtags on Mastodon, similar to how Lemmy already embeds a hashtag of the community into posts.
Do you plan to introduce some kind of post tags into Lemmy, preferably something that will behave like Hashtags on Mastodon and other activitypub platforms? I know that Lemmy has been embedding community name as a hashtag for a while now, though having tags that can be populated by users would help discovery greatly.
YDI, you have a long history of racist commenting and this isn’t even the worst thing you’ve said. Consider yourself lucky you weren’t banned much sooner for the racist garbage you’ve been spewing.
It appears you need to join the dbzer0 space first.
