Not all your actions are equally meaningless. If you take short showers the lower demand for water and gas/electricity won’t do much but for certain alternatives a critical mass is needed and adding your weight to that mass can matter. Take diary for example, soy milk has existed for ages but the increased demand the last 20 years result in increased supply. Same goes for alternative meats. More people biking increases the need for infrastructure, if enough people make that decision that will change road design which will in turn result in it being less attractive to drive. Same with public transport.

Climate laws and regulations will have a much more traceable impact, but the untraceable results of your individual action also has an impact.

If you care about having a large impact without large sacrifices there are articles online that go deeper into this.

  • It seems to me they not careful enough in translating or interpreting the letter they refer to. The letter in Dutch (as it is send between bodies of government) states the following:

The first part is what I got from the news, they banned these two ministers from the country. The second part says they want make that Schengen-wide. But, as I expected, this cannot be decided by a single country. Below is a machine translation by Deepl which I guess is what Politico should have used instead:

The cabinet has therefore decided to declare Israeli ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir persona non grata and is committed to registering them as undesirable aliens in the Schengen registration system SIS.

  • Thanks for writing this. I was considering to crosspost to !buyeuropean@feddit.uk / !buyfromeu@feddit.org because of your advice at the end. But maybe I can persuade you to expand on the things you said about European financial services instead.

Both communities have plenty of posts on goods and digital services, but neither have posts (at least not a lot) about financial services. I expect there to be people there who’d really like to know more about where their money could be kept wisely. You seem to have the expertise, so if you happen to have time to make a version of this post more focused on practical action i think the people in those communities would really appreciate it.
