  • I know this is “buy European”, but In North America JMP.Chat is your answer (from memory they are Canadian). It uses XMPP for the client, so you can sign in using their official android app, or you can use any XMPP client, which there are for any basically imaginable platform. Their onboarding and setup wasn’t the most intuitive or straightforward when I used it (in 2021 maybe?) but it’s still not too bad if you’re minimally competent with computers. It’s open source too so you can audit everything they do! They are also over here on lemmy: https://lemmy.ml/c/sopranica

I think there is also Sudo privacy, but I’m not sure where they are from

  • People on here like complain and will tell that he has his balls in his mouth when in reality all he did was show some hope after the Republicans appointed someone who has a track record of being anti-bigtech. I still think the way the situation was handled terribly, but to say that he is MAGA would be a hell of a stretch in my opinion

  • Complying with government data requests is NOT the same as collecting information for profit. A company cannot just decide to not comply with the local laws where they sell their products, or else they would risk getting banned in that country. Proton just like signal or any secure service will have to provide all of the requested info they have on you when demanded to. The point of using Proton and other secure services is that the actual important information (contents of your emails, drive elements, etc.) are encrypted, so even if they give the information, it will be useless. Proton isn’t sold as an anonymity service, but as a secure one. I’ve seen this whole debate and from the beginning it’s been stupid and uninformed takes that criticize just to criticize without any understanding of how being present in a foreign market works
