Apple@lemmy.zip•Apple Launches $599 MacBook Neo, Threatening Windows PC MarketEnglish
1·9 hours agoSaying M5 Air is just a RAM upgrade from Neo is silly. That M5 SoC will run laps around A18 Pro, not to mention other things like number of full speed USB ports, external display support etc. Neo needs USB-C display that can charge it because USB3 port is the only one it can use for power.
Neo is fine for web browsing and light tasks while even base M5 Air is a high end computer all things considered.

1·1 day agoI’ve just described entire extent of that content altering so you can stop pretending now it’s anything more than that. As to capability to alter content, that existed always.
That service is providing archived copies of websites, often paywalled, which is quite valuable given that free news aren’t worth much these days. Not that FT or Bloomberg don’t have agenda but their target is different and they’re still adhering to some journalistic standards.

11·1 day agoIt is malicious towards the guy who tried to dox person behind archive.today. By altering content you mean that archive.today is trolling that guy by deadnaming him. I’ll keep on using this site because it provides valuable service, unlike the guy that I’m inadvertently DDoSing. You’re defending an asshole just because he’s transgender.

World News@quokk.au•US removing guardrails from proposed Saudi nuclear deal, document saysEnglish
1·13 days agoIran didn’t have nukes around the corner but they kept uranium that was enriched well beyond what you’d require for a regular reactor. You don’t really need to dig a bunker absurdly deep in a mountain for nuclear research if all you’re doing is reactors too. These guys are playing a very long game and seem to be very patient.
Judging by your instance I assume you’re used to pretending Iran isn’t pursuing nuclear arms because it was a taboo but by now everyone and their grandmothers are trying to procure some nukes so it’s doubly silly to say that Iran wouldn’t do this 100% rational thing given how much of a threat Israel and Saudi Arabia are.

World News@quokk.au•US removing guardrails from proposed Saudi nuclear deal, document saysEnglish
1·13 days agoNobody cares about ballistic missiles since they didn’t prevent anyone from being invaded so far. Nukes on the other hand are a game over for bullies like US, Russia or China. Iran is quite open about pursuing this capability too and their enrichment facilities were heavily targeted during that brief war couple of months ago.

7·14 days agoSaudis and Israelis get to have nukes but Iran is going to get invaded because of it. Americans can’t get over being ousted along with a patsy shah that gave away their oil fields for free. Good thing BBC along with AP are setting up his grandson for picking up the slack on becoming a colony again.

World News@quokk.au•Lagarde dampens ECB exit talk, says she expects to finish her termEnglish
1·14 days agoWhat a reputational disaster it is for ECB. Deutsche Welle (German state broadcaster) even ran a piece on why Legarde stepping down ahead of time is a good thing because even if it shows central bank isn’t really politically independent, it’s the good guys abusing the system so it’s all fine.
There’s a typo in the url.

Yeah, no argument from me that it sucks there’s no option to upgrade. Other than forced segmentation and memory prices this might also be due to A18 Pro design which is more of a phone SoC - there’s no device with A18 that has different amount of RAM. I hope they’ll give an option for 12GB next year since even iPads get more these days.
My girlfriend is in the market for a new laptop since her 2012 MacBook Air is on it’s last legs and I guess Neo is what will make her upgrade. She doesn’t really multitask on her personal computer, just needs to express millennial urge to do serious things on a device that has a keyboard.
