There is currently no automatic update available, the feature request is tracked here.

The “automatic download” is somewhat confusing, it makes the app download the missing the maps when you zoom in to areas you have not downloaded yet.

Worth learning? Yes.

Worth using? It depends, I don’t think that a perfect tool can exist. I frequently use:

• CoMaps to quickly edit POIs, since I already use it for navigation
• StreetComplete to fix more complex tags when I’m outside
• iD when the geometry is mostly ok and just needs some finishing touches
• JOSM only for big projects or full remaps with weird buildings and roads.

I find that this variety makes the experience more enjoyable. For quick and easy jobs I edit on the spot, otherwise I add to a backlog and wait for the next rainy sunday to spend it mapping.

How long have you used it and how is it?

I’m pretty curious about those kinds of distros, and don’t really like how nixos is completely hosted on github (and all the drama that constantly comes from the community, and the bad documentation for many things, …).

However, guix seems such a niche project that I feel like it can’t really be used.
