Morality and ethics have always been rules made by humans for humans in order to organize larger collective than the ~150 people you are able to remember personally. So this isn’t hippocracy but the way things have always been with our societies.

The real question is: Which set of rules is the (currently) best one?

My personal answer: Cooperation always beats competition. Hence the society with the best set of rules enabling cooperation will out compete other forms. It believe that the original western ideals (equal chances, liberty as long as it doesn’t confine others etc.) are the best set currently available… if our societies drift away from that ideal back to feudalism we’ll be punished by societal evolution. Who knows… if the Chinese construct of state regulated capitalism works better than our neo-feudal models we’re coming up with (and obviously are unable to fight against) they might win the race in the near future.
