You know what could fix it? Openly talk about how this is Israels and the US fault and preassure them to make peace with Iran.

As long as there is war in the region, they cannot safeguard anything, else the all so mighty US military would have already done it.

Send mine swerping boats? What will they accieve? To be sitting ducs the Irani can shot at?

Sending manned ships through there is literary a suicide mission as long as there is a war going on.

Don’t know about the other countries, but Germany has made it clear that this will only happen once there is peace or a ceasefire.

They all have, most comments in here misunderstand the situation. This is about cleaning up the mess afterwards.

We will take other steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with certain producing nations to increase output.

Why so much focus on fossil fuels?

Accelerating the transition from fossiel fuels to renewables and building more energy storage would also help stabilise energy markets.

There’s also a need to assist cargo crew stuck at sea, and to allow safe passage of cargo transporting food.

    Those don’t get a mention.

Fair point. Fossil fuel cannot be replaced overnight. Such a sudden disruption is doing to cause harm.

The need to decrease fossil fuel has been clear for 30+ years. It wasn’t seriously acted on, and we missed the opportunity to decrease their use in an orderly and painless way. Now we’re facing chaotic and painful changes.

I hope we’re not loosing sight of the goals, and don’t bring back coal to compensate.

We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait.

Nothing about safeguarding. Contributions to “appropriate efforts” could be anything from providing SIGINT, teaching someone how to use an anti-drone capability, to tutting loudly.

Appropriate is quite the weasel word in this context.

And whatever “appropriate” is, the group will only be contributing towards “appropriate”, not doing “appropriate” directly.

Nothing short of conquering Iran can protect the strait. They must mean that.

The use of weasel words to shirk clarity on commitment is a bit of an indicator that they don’t mean what you said.

I get the vibe that Europe isn’t interested in participation in another Afghanistan or Iraq war.

You must be right. Appropriate efforts would be to do nothing while Iran can hit the ships.

Have they done the same for the free passage of oil shipments through the waters around Cuba?

The double standards would make this only appropriate for propaganda at home but should be unhelpful when dealing with neutral countries.
