A message of support for my fellow writers
I love this, but I wish I could say the same about the open source community. My code depends on other peoples’ code, and if that code is shit, it doesn’t matter if my code is better.
The bosses heard your complaints, and they agree with the AI: Directly sending SQL as a string from the frontend to the backend is a best practice. The AI says you can’t get more efficient than a website button sending “INSERT INTO dbo.users (name, password) VALUES (‘username’, ‘password’)” directly to the DB!
And if you want to make your writing suck, that’s all the better for me. One less person outshining me.
Meh, it’s a fun argument to make: ai sucks so if you use it your writing will suck more and i’ll look better by comparison.
It’s just not true. Someone who creates 10 boring, generic pieces of mediocre writing will always look better than someone who produces one good, interesting, error-free piece in the same time.
Only tradespeople pride themselves on the quality of their craft. Editors, management and bosses just want close enough and cheap as possible.
Tell that to Harper Lee or Patrick Rothfuss.
I gaurantee rothfuss’ publisher would gladly accept a shitty ai conclusion to kingkiller chronicles over waiting for him to finish 😂
Yeah but the fans wouldn’t.
