Somewhat related, I recently was reading an academic work on street life in Pompeii, and the word ‘roasted’ was used in the modern, slang meaning of the term, and I had to stop a moment and consider what a bizarre timeline I live in.
to be fair, if there is a double entendre to use in that context it’s that.
“Roast me!” - random Pompeian
Mt. Vesuvius - “lol, okay”
“best i can do is get you baked”
leg it to the east…
Academic terminology… has changed.
“definitely had Zenobia on his to-do list”
I’m wondering if this isn’t meant to be a little more casual, haha
The kids are alright.
Man, I haven’t seen the word milquetoast in yearrsss
One might go so far as to call it flabbergasting
I don’t know if its that I don’t vibe with modern slang, or that it just feels disrespectful to have such niche cultural verbage in a paper, but I don’t like it.
to me it indicates that they’re actually interested in the topic, and not just doing it out of obligation as a job
You know what, I’m going to take your positive outlook and adopt it. I don’t know whether its just a consequence of getting older, or bombardment with constant propaganda, but I’m starting to have strong opinions on stuff that truly just doesn’t matter at all.
Its their paper, they can do what they want.
