War crimes are not a competition. The actions of both Israel and Russia are crimes against humanity and should be treated and prosecuted as such.
But only one will be proscecuted in a made up tribunal instead of through international courts. And only one will not receive sanctions.

Well, the ICC and ICJ are more than capable of handling most war crimes, including the ones committed by Israel. This tribunal would exist to fill a hole in the jurisdictions of the international courts: To prosecute the crime of aggression. Russia attacked first. It’s incredibly clear cut. Israel and Gaza is more complicated. Here we got a circle of escalating violence. That makes it a lot harder to prosecute them for this specific crime.
The violence has been one sided for a long time now, and also the numerous cases of Israel targeting civilians and inhumane treatment of prisoners. All well documented, nothing complicated
I’m not defending Israel, I’m really not. All I’m saying is that the Israeli war crimes fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC and ICJ. You don’t need a dedicated tribunal to prosecute them. The same is true for Russia, except for this one crime that they definitely committed and Israel maybe didn’t commit. This one crime and only this crime needs a dedicated tribunal. That doesn’t make the other crimes any less serviere. It just means that the international community made a mistake and forgot one war crime when setting up the international courts.

The Nuremberg trials were infamously ineffectual (even arguably more performative than anything) and led to many high-level Nazi officials being given extremely lax sentences or even being acquitted. I hope this is more of a basic analogy than an actual example they would wish to follow.

The judicial system doesn’t work like that. A judge shouldn’t be a part of the conflict when they hold a tribunal. A tribunal is a way to hold war criminals accountable for their war crimes. It’s the task of the judicial system to judge based on the facts of these crimes, not on the contribution of the judges themselves.
