What’s “Chicago 16, Illinois”?
I looked this up. This is a postal zone number used for large cities. ZIP codes weren’t implemented until 1963, and people used postal zone numbers and ZIP codes interchangeably while they transitioned to the new ZIP codes in the mid to late 60’s. Chicago was given the prefix of 606, so one of Chicago’s current ZIP codes is 60616, and you can find this address right in the middle of it.
Wow, interesting. Thanks for looking it up! Kind of how Chicago’s main area code is 312, so it was easier to dial on rotary phones. Same with NYC (212) and LA (213).
