Haha what a bunch of lukewarm bullshit, what do they think will happen to their company and privacy online if those Swedish Hitlers get political power? It will be taken and never given back.
I was going to say that my next renewal for VPN services will not be with Mullvad unless they kick that guy out, but the fact that they’re so cynical or deluded that they think they can polish this turd is the final nail in the coffin.
I will not be using Mullvad for VPN again, and if their founders or C-suite people hop to different companies I’ll stop doing business with those companies too.
We need to make it very clear that support for fascism results in a massive hit to your wallet so that the entire industry knows to never do this
Do you know good alternatives?
iVPN looks decent
I’ve heard good things about Nym, too; and I’m weighing which to plonk down money for. Anyone know a trustworthy site for comparison between the two? I remember one big VPN comparison spreadsheet from years ago but iirc it was outdated the last time I checked it
safing SPN
Ugh. So stupid. My current Mullvad sub is almost up and I’m still trying to find an alternative. 😑

Exactly what’s currently happening worldwide. Y’know, making China proud.
Read his personal motivations linked from the Mullvad article.
Dude pulls hyperboles straight from the far right and anti immigration outlets with a pseudo marxist twist and a disclaimer that he wouldn’t want Örebropartiet in power anyway.
Sooo another business owner “libertarian anarchist” (his words) that wants lower taxes and less regulations for businesses and hinting demands of stronger police force and all with a delicate bouquet of racism. For the common good, of course, that just happens to be himself and those he identifies as his people.
I would not be surprised if he turns out be into Thiel-flavoured accelerationism as well.
I’m not defending this shit by any means but I am partly conflicted.
It’s fine to talk with your money and take it elsewhere. However, I wonder what the CEOs and staff of other VPNs spend their money on and how far this goes.
Say this Mullvad dude donated 10% of his income to the campaign. If your local vape store guy, McDonalds owner or whoever gave 10% of theor income to man-o-sphere influencers or right wing parties (as is probably common) would people be as outraged and walk? Or is it lower stakes and doesn’t matter?
I guess ultimately, as a root issue, people shouldn’t able to make and hord wealth like this, nor fund politicians.
Again not defending this but it’s just made me think about some things.
Lower stakes probably would have deescalated things a bit, i think. In this case the guy in question funds 80-90% of the political party in question which makes this whole thing feel even worse.
The founder’s blog is linked therein.
Why did I, a libertarian anarchist, support the Örebro Party (ÖP), which is neither, with a donation?
TL;DR: taxes and nationalism.
The dude fucked up, but as a rich “libertarian anarchist” he won’t admit it, because reasons.
And then relaxing the requirements for granting citizenship to nothing more than staying in the country for less than one parliamentary term period, and not requiring citizenship at all to vote in local and regional elections.
A self-described anarchist taking issue with Sweden requiring living in the country “continuously for at least eight years” before being able to obtain citizenship.
I think this hadn’t been made a big deal out of if it hadn’t been for the conspiracy theories on Proton just before
