    I personally will continue to use Mullvad for the time being. What it represents as an institution and a force in the online privacy sphere outweighs one donation by an individual to a fringe political party.

    I do think the statement by Mullvad is fair. The company is 50% owned by Daniel Berntsson and Fredrik Strömberg.

    Strömberg has stated that he and others at Mullvad disagree and don’t like what Berntsson has done. But what he did he did as a private individual and not in as a representative of Mullvad (although being a co-owner that is a difficult circle to square).

    The Örebro Party’s take on “remigration” is wild. I really wished it was just a populist party that wanted stricter immigration controls but to quote Örebro Party co-founder Markus Allard

    “They will also be forced to leave, even if they are born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedish.”

    I can’t find any direct source if Daniel Berntsson explicitly agrees with this stance. It would be pretty shocking coming from a self professed “libertarian anarchist” … well not that shocking…

    It’s disappointing and hopefully the backlash will make Berntsson reconsider his position but I personally don’t feel as justified as some others here in throwing Mullvad under the bus.

    When doing such political campaigning we are careful in not taking political stances outside of our narrow areas of focus. Because we want to cooperate with everyone.

    Sounds like the Swiss in World War II.

    Fuck Mullvad for the weak sauce response. They are in a tough spot due to the racist-supporting CEO, but the move should be kicking him out or splitting off to a new company instead of going “he doesn’t represent us”. He fucking does, that’s why he’s the goddamn CEO.

    I’m looking at the European alternatives. ProtonVPN is also has a CEO who supports fascism (unfortunately), IVPN is opensource but only accepts US dollars as payment, F-Secure is expensive, so Xeovo, GooseVPN, OctoVPN and AirVPN are still in the running. AirVPN is opensource and somehow collaborative it seems, which makes it my top contender.

        Basically the Proton CEO (or similar) posted that a nomination to some high function in the USA was great (they were pro some law IIRC). The person was nominated by Trump and everyone went crazy calling him a fascist etc.

        Personally I think it feels like a drummed up bullshit thing. Especially compared to all other VPNs.

        CEO posted some stuff supporting Trump and his administration and how it was better for the economy or something. Got a lot of flak and it was then posted on the Proton twitter handle which was like an official endorsement. Reddit went nuts and Proton took it down with an apology from the CEO saying it was all a misunderstanding/miscommunication + “I learned my lesson” or something.

        There are probably more thorough sources, but that’s the gist of it.

    I moved on from them a month ago when this shit came out. the choice of WHERE I moved to probably isn’t great either but as long as Proton doesn’t support Nazi’s then i’m fine with them.
