Just the title.
Do you know people who display serial dishonesty or other bad attitudes, and find yourself setting them on the right path?
No. Calling them out would be talking to them when I don’t strictly need to. That sounds like no fun.
Praise publicly, criticize privately. I’d never publicly call someone out, but I may approach them individually and offer constructive criticism
Yeah that makes sense
Only because they are constantly wrong. Generally just in a professional capacity, though. Otherwise, not my circus, not my monkey.
No not really. Socially I really just cut off people like that. FYI I had cut off all my problematic family members, and since most of them are dead.
Professionally, there is some of that, but not really. In my experience those people end of taking care of themselves.
Only with my son. Only when he was young. That was part of my job as a parent.
Otherwise, no. I only have one child. The other children of all ages are not my responsibility.
Professionally I have way too many opportunities for this, but a quarter century in my field has taught me that calling people out just makes more work for me. Sometimes you just have to let people dig their own hole.
Personally I don’t let people like that in my life, and my wife and kids and immediate family are great people so we don’t really have that problem in our family life. I realize I am lucky in that regard.
I would say unless you’re management and that’s part of your job, then for your own sanity you might have to let it go. Keep notes so you know who’s who, but it’s not your job to fix other people.
Really well thought out answer, thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, management has the same attitude 😕
No. I doubt I would have much a relationship with somone like that. One thing is when conversing with people I will sometimes disagree or say im not sure about that. Some people seem to take umbridge at that. Its like they can’t have a conversation without everyone agree with them. Which means I have no idea what their opinion is since maybe they are just agreeing with me because thats what they think one should do. I really miss the high school and college days.

Such people can be a real problem, actually! It means that talking to them is a huge waste of time
Not really my place to decide what the right path is for someone else.
But i’m sure you do sometimes? If someone says something you know to be scientifically wrong, is it not the loving thing to do, to correct them on it?
No
No, because I’m not a self-righteous jerk.
All you have to do is avoid those people as much as possible. If you find ourself around them frequently, you need to make some changes to your life.
Anytime bad actors join something I do, I just quit. It’s not worth it and you will never win against people who have no honest or morality.
Not often in RL, I actively try not to associate with people like that in person. On the internet though, yeah it happens more often. I sometimes engage with people like that online (on Lemmy, for instance) mostly around issues of data or fact checking. I have strong feelings about misleading or just plain wrong information, and obviously issues like that happen a lot online, especially these days.
The biggest issue is some people are very earnest in their beliefs and because of that feel justified in pushing a narrative or pushing false information to suit their viewpoint for “the greater good” and I simply cannot agree with that methodology. Others are just plain hypocrites about anything that strays from their personal views, and I cannot stand that either.
I enjoy letting others be wrong. When I break my own rule, I just end up liking the individual even less.
