I have a meeting in less than an hour where I have to present stuff so I panicked and decided to post this instead. hbu?
edit: meeting got delayed but should start in 5-10 mins. Also, I’m no longer in my underwear.
Work…
I’m sitting in front if a machine worth about 30k I’m supposed to be using to take photos
So yeah that
Joke’s on you I’m taking a massive shit right now.
I am supposed to be monitoring the tsunami warning system in Kumamoto.
that sounds umm… could you do that please?
Its fine I had to mute it anyway, its been making a bloody beeping noise for the last twenty-five minutes. Never heard that before, very distracting.
Have you tried turning it off and then leaving it off? That worked for my carbon monoxide detector.
I might try that after dinner, the beeping was two short tones and two long tones which the user manual says is a type 096 system error, not to be muddled with two long tones and two short tones which means dangerous coastal flooding & powerful currents immanent.
(When the code repeats indefinitely, and you can’t remember which part was first.)
There’s a repair shop for those just up the hill from you.
you got a five thirteen!!!
What do all of these moving needles mean?
Tickets. I should resolve tickets. I should call people and tell them : ‘have you tried to turn it off and on again ?’ Everything is burning on this planet, but restarting computer seem very important to produce more items.
Have you considered how your job impacts the almighty productivity we as a society have decided to worship and enslave ourselves to? If we didn’t have that maximum output of dollars for assholes per sentient human being we couldn’t buy more shit or subscription services we don’t need with the pennies the assholes drop for us.
You’re a danger to society.
I’m unemployed so I have a billion tasks in no specific order, and no boss to push me to do it:
order stuff for a non-profit(done)write some documents for that same non-profit, they are not organized at all(partially done)clean my desktop(done)study(done)play the drums(done)read non-tech books(will do later)do some bodyweight(fuck it, I’ll do that tomorrow)NOT play Steam while drinking beer for 4 hours(done)cleaning the toilets(done, woohoo)
I have 4 hours left, it should be easy but being unemployed for 6 months and constantly rejected is making me feel like shit. I’ll see what I can do though.
Edit: everything was done or almost done!!
I’m sorry you’re out of a job. If i may offer some unsolicited advice, maybe start by doing some kind of self care exercise. Like thinking about the things you appreciate about yourself or idk, maybe just allowing yourself to take your time with your chores.
Unemployment will fuck up your mental health. And yeah, rejection is rough but don’t think any less of yourself due to it.
Not currently having a role in the mindless production of a heartless society does not reflect on your value as a person, a friend, or even a worker.
Stay strong. <3
That’s some great unsolicited advice and I appreciate that. I’ll keep that in mind and add it to my routine. Thanks!
no prob, friend.
I did everything and more thanks to you! I’ll see if there is a community for procrastinators to post their todo lists…
Daaaamn! That’s awesome! It was thanks to you, though. ;)
Isn’t it amazing how much work you can get done when you don’t have a job?
Also, I’m no longer in my underwear.
I was nervous about the phone interview (no video) for my first job, so I took a shower before it started. But I didn’t realize we were in different time zones, so the call came an hour sooner than I expected. I did the interview with a towel wrapped around me. I got the job.
beautiful
I was late on my first day for the same reason. 🙃 But I soon realized my mistake and worked with them for a couple of years before moving on to something else.
Yeah you gotta shower at work
Nah, just take one when you get the job. Then never again. For luck. 😉
They gotta test the eye rinse full body shower periodically. so what if i make sure it works every day. it’s for a safety, honey

I should be out in the woods crawling already.

Sleeping.
Absolutely nothing. Long Covid has me confined to my bed for the rest of my life and I’m “free” to do whatever is not too taxing.
Dang. How has that gone, if you don’t mind me asking?
Awfully. At first I just didn’t get well again after the initial infection. But at least I could still walk about and do little stuff, like loading the dishwasher, going on short walks, playing D&D online.
Bad mistakes. Every time I did a little too much I got even worse and could do less and less. My incompetent GP who didn’t believe in Long Covid didn’t help either.
About four years later and I can only leave the bed to go number 2. No idea how long that will last. We already bought a bed pan. But using that looks even harder rhan going myself. We’ll see.
Now that I know more I’m positive that I actually had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis even before the infection. Just not that bad. But I shan’t tell that anyone because all the science is now done on Long Covid. Even though ME has been known for about half a century and Long Covid is just an umbrella term for everything that can persist after a Covid infection.
Even after we’ve got millions of more cases ME patients are just gaslit or at best ignored.
Don’t answer if this is too much, but: how are you taken care of? I’d be scared of not making rent if I lost my job. Is there a program or something for people that are essentially bed bound? I don’t know a lot about that system.
I’m in Germany, so I have a pretty good safety net. But I was also lucky to have my wife to fill out all the paperwork and my parents to support us financially (and also with the paperwork) until it was all sorted out.
I get an early pension. The only bad part about that is that I have to reapply every three years or so. My wife gets paid to take care of me and we have an additional pool we can pay to external helpers.
On top of that I have disability insurance. I kind of was about to change it to a higher tier a year or so before Corona. But I didn’t feel like doing that paperwork. Now I wish I did.
Still, with everything together we can kind of keep living like we did before. I’m just missing around the house for chores and repairs and stuff.
So sorry to hear. Thank you for sharing.
Sleeping
getting ready to play bass in a cover band, we have an hour long set at a retirement home this afternoon. my first ever paid gig! definitely a tad nervous but it should be a good time
Dang, congrats, Noxy! Hope it goes well!
It did! Not technically perfect, but none of us expected it to be, and we had fun and got nothing but positive feedback!
definitely feeling the importance of the bass player keeping the rhythm, especially when our drummer also does backup vocals (which still blows my mind that anyone can do that many things at once!)
Ooh nice!!! Good luck out there!

Thanks! Went pretty well, I feel great after the show <3
I am supposed to be responding to an email but I’m really angry about it and distracting myself to calm down so the response is work appropriate.

Nothing, I just finished breakfast while scrolling.
GL on the presentation! Yesterday I found out I can give a talk in a week and a half on some work I did several years ago. I’m kinda looking forward to it. I do that thing where I imagine I’m just presenting to one person in the room. Also I usually make some good slides, so if I freeze up I can just read off the slides. Also, practice!
Good for you and good tips. I’m still in my underwear though.
oh… er… What kind of presentation is-- nevermind, good luck anyway!
It’s about strategic consulting
Nothing hugely important. I don’t usually have Tuesday off, so I’d like ti get to the habitat restore, and a local antique mall has a guy who sells antique chisels and hand planes who is only there on Tuesdays.
Otherwise, i need to fix permissions on my suddenly broken nas, rebuild my proxmox server I broke when transferring parts, install the last five panels of privacy fence in my backyard, run service cable through a buried conduit to my garage, finish stitching my chisel roll, pick up some gate hardware for the fence, move a pallet of vintage specialized bricks out of my neighbors yard to use on my porch, renew my car insurance, check on my current 3d prints, design some drawers to hold lens blanks at my offices, and sharpen all my planes, chisels, spokeshaves and striking knives.
Quality of life upgrades, nothing particularly pressing. Gotta finish my coffee and consider eating something first.
Damn, sounds like a lot though. did you get something to eat?
