Most stressful moments in my life:
- Witnessing the births of my children
- Gluing up woodworking projects
- Combat in Syria
But actually, gluing is so goddamn stressful to me.
Leg #1, my golden boy, worked perfectly, the glue looked good, the toothpick went in with just the right amount of friction, just beautiful.
Then I go to do leg #3, the ugly-ass, stretch Armstrong looking motherfucker, and the toothpick snaps after it was already fully inserted into the leg. THEN, when I used a pliers to pull it out, the end just ripped off, so I ended up relying on the suction inherent in the joint and prayers.
I think it’ll all turn out okay.
^this is #1, my golden boy
^top leg here is fuck-ass #3
Update: having taken the time to look at these pictures, I realize how horrifically uneven the tops of the legs are and I want to burn it. I did the gluing in a huge rush and it shows :[

Use Goop adhesive, then the toothpicks won’t even matter.
It cures enough to hold in about a minute, full strength overnight.
Completely removable, very strong. It’s like thick rubber cement. Almost perfect for your use-case as it provides an easy failure mode.
I use this stuff on everything, it’s the magic glue. I’ve reassembled laptops with it. Glued magnets to plastics. It holds my soundbar on my TV, a network switch to the back of the TV so it’s out if the way.
I’ve even mounted hard drives to random places inside a PC with it - it’s just that robust.
Vaguely related, one of the reasons I love solid wood anything, furniture, toys, whatever, is that they’re REPAIRABLE. If he snaps a leg off, no problem, i can just carve off the glue, sand it down, and slap a new one on, easy peasy
