Gonna make a ruling on this one.
Anyone saying anything negative about Dolly is a terrible person.
It’s a conundrum. I want to upvoter Dolly, because she was incredible. I want to downvote news of her passing, because it makes me sad
The only way to win is to not play. No voting at all.
complaining about downvotes and upvotes is a shitty post, not a shitpost
I upvote the Dolly! He upvote the Dolly! Why not you upvote the Dolly?!
I don’t give a damn about Dolly. I won’t downvote it, but I sure as hell never cared about her. Not everyone likes what others like.
I don’t do it but I “get” it.
For the last oh I don’t know- ever? Americans don’t give a shit about anything until a celebrity dies, and days later they no longer give a fuck.
When I was in my 20s (dating myself here- old man shouts at clouds) and Michael Jackson died, the record store I worked at sold out of every Jackson album in about 45 minutes- as if no person had ever listened to their music before. It’s fake- performance art of the public. We reordered 10 times our normal stock amount and by the time it came in 2 or so days later, nobody gave a shit any more and we had to send most of it back.
The average American is so dumb- like goldfish. We’ve all heard the joke right? Maybe a 3 second memory? If it’s not in the headlines TODAY, it doesn’t exist to most people. It all just feels so disingenuous and fake. It feels as if most people’s reaction is just performance.
Are you not aware of “being reminded of something” or “appreciation”
It does come off as a kind of fake grief. I also block all the wholesome meme communities, so it’s annoying to see the regular meme comms get flooded with “remember when (celebrity) did this and showed everyone how good of a person they are”.
Don’t really see the point in downvoting it but it definitely makes me roll my eyes.
But then you never see the “remember when John Brown burned down the slavers” memes
I also block all the wholesome meme communities
And also because they’re full of “You’re special and great just the way you are” and similar nonsense. You don’t know me! These ‘wholesome’ messages are definitely reaching people who are not great just the way they are, people who really should change. These messages of vague positivity are pointless and meaningless when they’re not directed toward a specific person.

Let’s keep posting and upvoting All Things Dolly! For two reasons: 1. Dolly Parton is awesome. and 2. It will piss off #47 that Ms. Parton is getting more attention.
Dolly Parton is awesome
was, let’s get it right
Our Lady of Childhood Literacy may be dead, but she is not gone. SHE IS ETERNAL. ALL HAIL DOLLY
Always will be
What is the picture from?
I think it’s Seinfeld.
Yeah they turn up about 4 or 5 times over the entire run. Usually to give Kramer a hard time. They’re characters that can go 0 - 100 aggression with a flip of a switch.
i thought it was mike patton
Wait we’re supposed to downvote posts?
Downvotes post
I’m out of the loop, what’s this about ?
Dolly Parton passed away, and this OP is complaining that some people are downvoting posts about her.
There’s 50 million (exaggeration) posts about it, not everyone cares
So, like the Hivemind is trying to subtly tell you, stating you don’t care about others’ grief is kinda gauche. It’s one of those sitiations covered by the adage “if you can’t think of something nice to say, just don’t say anything at all.”
Just let people express their grief. Art (and I include music, film, and kids books in that go read Walter the Farting Dog and tell me it doesn’t spark a love of reading) heals hearts and connects people. I like to think about the emotion called frisson. People like Dolly and Tim, their job was to help people like us experience that emotion together. I look up to that and it’s what I want to do with my gigs.
She donated over 300 million (not an exaggeration) books to kids
Rich person doing the bare minimum with their wealth, wow
Still don’t care.
I downvote people who complain about downvotes cause it gives me a little chuckle.
Any celebrity with radio silence on the genocide of our time deserves zero respect. RIPBOZO.
It’s me.

I routinely downvote “this celebrity died” type posts, because I don’t care and I think it’s low-quality content, especially when it’s used as a vehicle to insert celebrity ‘news’ into communities that don’t normally cover that kind of thing
-
I never much cared about her or country music, and I also tend to downvote things I find irrelevant and I don’t care about
-
This one in particular seems to be generating a ton of posts all over the place, and I especially dislike hearing about it over and over again
She’s not just a random celebrity. She did a ton of good.
Which is the bare minimum that should be expected from extremely wealthy individuals
And how many extremely wealthy individuals reach even the bare minimum?
I fail to see why that would matter. You don’t lower the bar because most aren’t reaching it, this isn’t highschool gym class.
