The Supreme Court of Missouri has ordered the Secretary of State of Missouri to appear in person at a contempt of court hearing today.

The court found that Hoskins was in contempt, but he managed to purge the contempt by hearing time. (i.e. he came into compliance with the court order by directing election officials to use the 2022 map.)

Apparently, Hoskins was at the hearing, but it sounds like he might have escaped with some light ass chewing.
I sent this to my buddy who is an organizer and solicitor for the petition, he’ll be chuffed.
If I were a betting man, and I’m not, I would put all my bitcoins on Missouri using the new maps for midterms with zero consequences.
That’s what Ohio did. Their maps were ruled unconstitutional, then they just did absolutely nothing to fix them and when the midterms came around they said “well we can’t just have an election with no maps at all, we’ll just go ahead and use these unconstitutional ones for the time being.”
Yeah, I remember reading that a while back. Republicans are above the law. There are always warnings, but no consequences when they ignore them.
Possible Silver lining, maybe the Supreme Court knows the new maps are bad for republicans so they want to strike them down before they shoot themselves in the foot?
Why would this court actually do something on principle in this case??
They hope that if they give true bipartisan decisions every once in a while, it will prevent the courts from being packed when Dems take office.
This one is a no brainer. Go against the Missouri SC for a net of 2 seats? Not with it.
We so need an independent organization that determines every few years actual district mapping across all states that is based on real data and not by the state officials to retain their power.
Oh, right… reality favors the left, and Republicans would only have a few places they still dominant. Yeah, that’s not fair.
