Okay this is not really that relevant here…but my father who works for the government in one of those everyone is probably getting fired soon but who knows… Anyway I was talking on the phone with him and he said “I’m worried about my job I don’t know what I would do … but I’m glad they are getting rid of all that waste in the government spending”

That they think the waste is people’s jobs and not the billions we pour into corporations is equally frustrating and mind-boggling. I stopped talking to my parents because I just can’t handle these kinds of conversations. They reek of dishonesty.

people would rather be broke, jobless, the opposite of free, and be regarded as stupid–rather than simply admit they made a major life-wrecking mistake

tell your dad that i, for one, hope he enjoys his suffering

You know, you’re no better… You shouldn’t want people to suffer… That’s how we got here… Instead of boosting people up and encouraging people to be better… People like you wish people would suffer…

Maybe you will take some time to reflect and be a better person…

Edit: clearly we are all doomed to be assholes and divided… Maybe instead one day you will see who the real enemy is…

And just because you didn’t vote for a racist sexist committed felon, means you’re better?

Because your party is so great and wants you to prosper? Or is it just controlled by corporations and billionaires with the same agendas?

                Yes.

Don’t know when I said anything about parties or what I think of Democrats. Pretty sure that’s an entirely different topic. (I think they’re the controlled opposition party, for what it’s worth.)

I think it was 7 steps I think it had a “is actually good” second and I’m pretty sure a “You deserved it” last or second to last but I thought the same.

I’m seeing quite a bit of “You deserved it” right now. Lots of “Actually, I just avoid buying things, so now the higher prices don’t bother me” cope all over /r/conservative and like-minded reactionary media.

Poverty fetishism, cottage-core influencing, a proliferation of reactionaries in DIY spaces, and always a healthy supply of “we just didn’t go far enough” revanchism has been trending for a while, but its seeing a new renaissance with the looming recession.

      • Dying of covid to own the libs.
      • Losing their jobs to own the libs.
      • Losing their social security to own the libs.
      • Losing their health care to own the libs.
      • Breathing increased pollution to own the libs.
      • Paying higher prices to own the libs.

Shooting themselves in the foot over and over… “Ha! Take that libs!”

There’s a squishy American centrist block that just gets mad any time there’s any degree of adversity (or just negative news media on their screens) and decides to vote the most reactionary candidate on the ticket in response.

Conveniently, Democrats have been marching to the right in order to sweep up those votes. Expect a lot of “Republicans are turning American into SOVIET RUSSIA! and we need the free market to fight back!” liberal campaigning in 2026.
