I’ve realised this community just “ironically” straight up posts misinformation. Yeah it’s funny for the people who understand contextually that the content posted isn’t true. But not everyone does. No one’s above this sort of manipulation. I’m sure a doctor could throw together some bullshit meme like this that isn’t true, but I might be convinced that it is because it’s so far outside my current level of knowledge. I also think a farmer or a mechanic or any other person with a knowledge set outside of my own could convince me of something not true.

This kind of content is just lazy. Why not actually be proactive. Make this community a base for knowledge learning and education development. Why not make a rule where sources showing the reality of the situation should be accompanied with a post? It could be so much more than just laughing at people. But I guess people don’t actually want to put in the effort to help other people learn. They just want to alienate them and call them dumb. Ironically they will then act all surprised Pikachu face when a candidate running a literal misinformation campaign wins a major election.

You give way too much credit to /pol/. Go on there, try to educate. They will laugh at you and call you names. This isn’t hyperbole. They revel in this stuff.

And you’re just reveling in watching them do it. Fundamentally you are doing the exact same thing just from a different perspective.

E: noticed you’re the mod of this community. I’ve given my 2 cents and wanted to know what you thought about it. Just want to know if I should filter the community or not. Thanks! :)

Fluoride is naturally present in a lot of drinking water. That’s all you have to say. The word ‘natural’ makes it all better.

Admittedly, those are terrible, but let’s focus on the bigger problem at hand: dihydrogen monoxide. It covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface and kills hundreds of thousands per year.

Anyone who has ever taken in even a small amount of dihydrogen monoxide has eventually died. Lethal!

I mean they have a point on this one.

Flourine is toxic waste. They were looking for something to do with it. They learned about flourine rinses and flouride in toothpaste and said, hey, maybe this would be good for people’s teeth, if we just started putting it in the water. And, apparently, it is (depending on who you ask). But that’s not why they got interested in it. They got interested in it because they had these huge tanks of toxic waste, and they were trying to figure out what to do with it.

      The dose determines the poison.

      • “Salt is dangerous—because it melts ice on roads, imagine what it does inside your body.”
      • “Oxygen is dangerous—it causes metal to rust and fruit to rot, so it can’t be safe to breathe.”
      • “Water is dangerous—it’s the primary ingredient in antifreeze, which kills pets.”
      • “Lemon juice is dangerous—it can dissolve grease and remove stains, so it’s probably damaging your insides.”
      • “Baking soda is dangerous—it can strip paint and remove rust, so it can’t possibly be safe for baking.”

Dude I literally sent you a whole article with the history behind it, comparison of dental health over time in the US where the water is fluoridated vs Europe where it is not, all that stuff. Where in that article or anywhere in my comment did you see the logic “it’s bad at high doses so that must mean it’s harmful at small doses”?

Sure, but that’s not the case the original poster makes – yours is an example of a convincing hypothesis. The original one might as well say “ooooo scary chemicals!”

Yeah so you need to go back and reply to the original commenter or something, instead of to my post adding truthful content lol. I wasn’t doubling down on the meme. I was saying that unlike any of your other examples similar to the meme, there are qualified people who criticize water flouridation.

Edit: What the fuck have I got myself into 🥲

The original one is also factual – fluoride will eat holes in concrete.

Fair enough. I edited it to say “truthful” instead. I will now seek to exit my involvement in these comments.
