the EPA announced they’re rolling back regulations on forever chemicals today. the crew behind veritasium timed the release of this video so perfectly that i can’t help but wonder if they held it in the backlog waiting for this admin’s EPA to do some dumb shit.

It would make a lot of sense for them to do that. Just by the standards of their videos, you can tell there’s a lot of brilliant people working on them.

Firefighters get exposed to a lot of PFAS from the fire suppressant foam. Firefighters who donated blood regularly had lower levels of blood-PFAS than non-donors. Donating blood might be one current option to reduce your PFAS levels.

Pardon my ignorance, but if your blood has high levels of PFAS, wouldn’t you then be donating contaminated blood?

Yes. But when you need a transfusion to live it’s still a good deal for you. Besides, you can always just donate blood later to bring your levels back down.

Sorry doctor, I only accept free rage, organic, pfas free blood transfusions.

Maybe, I’m ignorant of the answer to that. I think they often separate blood so maybe it gets filtered.

It’s the foams specifically for fighting fuel fires that are made from PFAS. Unfortunately, their safety gear also is loaded with PFAS.

Blood serum PFAS concentrations thankfully have been decreasing over time. It’s probably not worth getting yours tested unless you had some specific exposure other than consumer goods. You should ask your doctor, if you have one.

This data is from Canada, but the results are similar for the US.
