I mean the most popular genre in Japan is “get hit by a bus, and start over literally anywhere but the world we live in.” That really tells you everything you need to know.

I still think the coolest part is bringing up this fact whenever someone wants to feel like boasting how theyve exhausted their scientific research and insist about how consciousness is made up from the brain and how the brain is the entirety of our lived experience….

Then I point out to them the plethora of sea creatures living life without a brain and in fact there have been studies on people whom they discovered had much if not most of their brain missing and still didn’t notice. Lived a perfectly normal life. Still had a consciousness. Still experienced love, happiness and fulfillment

Anyways I digress. Our mind is not whatever our brain state is which is pretty fricken cool.

Good little article on the phrase origin here. Excerpt from the quoted 1838 editorial:

Ensconced in his mail of proof—for defence purely, his disposition being no ways bellicose—he snugly nestleth in his mucid bed, revels in quiescent luxury, in the unctuous loam that surroundeth him, or, with slow and dignified motion, worketh nearer the surface, as the summer suns warm the roof of his mud-palace, or sinketh deeper within, from the nipping frosts of winter.
