Bulgaria was occupied by the Sowjet Union in 1944 and got turned into a Warsam Pact state after that. 1944 to 1990 is 46 years; they have been in NATO since 2004 (21 years) and EU since 2007 (18 years).
It’s not at all certain that the EU will make it another 25 years, and NATO in its original form is already dead in the water.
