The one-problem with āStar Trekā it is supposed to be exploring space & not interfering with other planetsā beingsā development, but it still has a lot of violence-wars. I think this comes right from the inventor/creator of āStar Trekās experiences in great war. I wish I could create something as successful as he did, just my own story - more politics & thus activism involved & lead good characters not using violence & war as candy for viewers entertainment.
I grew-up with āStar Warsā (like almost all other Space & SciFi entertainment) that was really about war, not peace & the true work it takes to get there-maintaining it. Then matured into the person I am & chose āStar Trekā over āStar Warsā (let alone almost all other Space & SciFi entertainment), because closest to exploration through peace & the true work it takes to get there-maintaining it.
Thus, my favorite Space & SciFi entertainment now are D S 9 & T N G.
Older Star Trek, as Roddenberry saw it, more closely followed your desired formula. I mirror your sentiment, I love that Trek at its best is about culture, society, people, etc. Unfortunately war is a comfortable crutch for shows like Star Trek, Iād be surprised if anyone could make a sci-fi TV show entirely without it. Personally Iāll take entire seasons of filler about things like fungus people or Law In Space.
Up to a certain point Trek managed to keep military conflict at bay, to a degree. There were episodes about the Neutral Zone, or a Klingon raid, or what have you, but the plot eventually would cycle back to other matters. Itās DS9 where the show runners intentionally dove into those elements, and to their credit the show found good conflict there. How do you feel about Voyager? I prefer it to DS9, despite thinking DS9 is a stronger show and preferring the cast, because it focuses more on the things I like in Trek while DS9 at its root is about war.
I am not sure how to quote, from othersā posts, & cannot find posts exchanges providing those answers.
āPersonally Iāll take entire seasons of filler about things like fungus people or Law In Space.ā
I dislike the implications in the word filler, especially, entire seasons worth. I am assuming meaning scientific over violence & wars. What do you mean by Law in Space? What & How The UN supposed to work here on Earth, is what you mean but in participating Beingsā areas of other space?
I rarely see the main focus of episodes eventually moving away from violence and wars.
I agree while āD S 9ā ends-up being extremely violent version, it still is my favorite right now. Only because I not watched their episodes as many times as I have the very best version ever- āThe N Gā. From my watching all the versions, observationally, āThe N Gā is 2nd least violence & warsā plot for the series existence more. I thought āThe Enterpriseā series had a huge potential, love the plot for the series existence, but it just sucked & ran to violence & war.I remember watching the older āStar Trekā, I would disagree with that, because the crews were not made-up the same professions. Plus, all the rankings & languages used were from WW2 USA Navy.
Why do we need to choose either? Why canāt we like sci-fi? I grew up on Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and BSG. Bring for only one is like saying āI only like dogs, cats suck.ā
Legacy star wars is still goated imo
Same with Stargate SG-1
Foundation too for a modern sci-fi show imo
I like picking and choosing what parts of star wars or star trek I like and consider my personal canon
Although, all REAL space commies stan Kira. No exceptions š¤
I do not what you are saying. Not as good as average user on Internet language.q
Star Wars (the original trilogy) wasnāt about war. It wasnāt about peace either. The theme of Star wars (what it was actually about), was the redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Everything that happened in the trilogy was simply to service that arc.
source: G. Lucas.
Are you talking about the movies 1-3 or original movies by release date 4-6? I can only assume you are talking about movies 1-6, since Anakin & his arc (starting as Anakin to āDarth Vaderā back to Anakin, with the last breaths of him) was in all of them. Which makes what G. Lucas said makes no sense. Nice try, G. Lucas! I was not born yesterday, but I was a huge fan, until discovered that violence & wars are the reason āStar Warsā became famous. Strip that out & not enough people care about any of the movies, because scripts fall apart.
If I could get G. Lucas to take my question serious:
Why did not the rebels Non-Violent protest-activism to achieve their shortest term of āpeaceā or however one wants to call it? Like equally outmatched, if not even more, Indigenous people of the country of India (lead by Mahatma Gandhi) VS UK & The Black/African-American people, in The USA, (lead by Martin Luther King Jr.) winning some USA Constitutional Civil Rights VS the racist USA (including most of the politicians) which both used only Non-Violent protests-activism.
