It’s only a meme if it comes from the meme region of the internet. Otherwise, it’s just sparkling silliness.

Do it then.
Oh wow the same junk with a different comment clipped in… This makes it sooo much different…
The callout is so cute too.
I’ve been in your place, this is a lost war, pal. A song is a meme, an audio is a meme, a gif is a meme, a screenshot is a meme… I’m tired of it, I just say “heh, good meme” whenever someone shows me twitter screenshot.

I just recall that I’ve started to say “that’s AI” when someone show me something just to grind theirs gears.
They’re on the side that everything is a meme and they thinks they’re hurting my feelings by posting another trash screenshot.
Meanwhile I say that there are more suitable communities that don’t get nearly as much content/traffic because everything is dumped here.
6 7
Anything is meme.
67 replaced 69 becuase 6 ate 9 for revenge as 9 hurt 11 and we all know 7 and 11 are best friends
You don’t get it! It’s only a meme if it’s cataloged by know your meme!

Always has been on here.
An idea that evolves in its transmission and spreads like a virus. Method of transmission does not matter.
To me, a meme requires an image and text. That image could be a gif or a still image, but it needs an image. I do not consider images of plain text to be memes—those are just posts posted in an unnecessarily data-fat way.
What about non-image memes like “6-7” or the various stupid “xyz challenge”s?
I don’t consider 67 a meme in and of itself. I don’t know about these challenges you’re referring to.
It’s a whole category or two.

I’d also throw in various hazing rituals as being memetic activities
Ah. No, I don’t consider those memes.
“funny internet thing”.
No, a political rant is not a meme, not even by modern standards. A tweet which is just observing something isn’t a meme.

Are you using the outdated definition from Dawkins?

Because there’s no point having a community dedicated to “units of transmissible information”. That’s just the internet itself. Every single community on the threadiverse would be a meme community so the name of this one would be meaningless and stupid.
Try and beat back the tide if you want, but I at least want communities that allow you to select reasonably what you’re getting in your feed. “Memes” with the modern definition allows that to some extent.
Your face!
