Can someone who’s more familiar with the German political climate explain AfD’s rise to power?

Does Germany just have a massive MAGA-like population? Or are they just feeling nostalgic for Hitler?

Turns out that internationally orchestrated disinformation campaigns utilizing the key vulnerabilities of both social media and profit-obsessed traditional media are quite effective when the only resistance from the Neoliberals and Social Democrats in power is meek requests for civility and endlessly conceding key policy stances in a futile attempt to placate the swindled masses.

Like the US Dem leadership, German establishment politicians are laughably unprepared for the Age of Disinformation and this is the inevitable consequence.

Neoliberalism failed worldwide and fascists are capitalising on economic hurt it brought. The left is untrustworthy to regular people because they allied themselves with neoliberals (especially in matters like immigration). Fascism provides easy solutions and scapegoats even if it serves neoliberal interests in the end - it’s just that people tried other things and they didn’t work. Full blast fascism hasn’t been tried in a while so they forgot what it really is and now they’re getting scammed by them too.
