Just make it an Irish Whiskey, or Canadian… just from anywhere other than the US.
I hear Scottish whisky is quite popular. Storck Club is also a pretty good German rye whisky, if you’re into that. Or try your luck with an aged genever, a lot of them are very spirit- and cask-forward, rather than tasting strongly of botanicals like you’d expect. Zuidam Oude Genever 5 jaar is a favourite of mine when I’m in the mood for a wood-flavored drink, and reasonably priced.
I didn’t know there were good distilleries on the continent. NL and DE are practically local for me, so I’ll have to give both a try. Cheers for the recommendations.
In my 20s it was Jameson for mixing and if I wanted to go fancy a Red or Yellow Breast.
These days I don’t have much alcohol around anymore, but spirit of choice has become a nice Cognac.
