Isn’t there a joke about most “war crimes” were made up by people watching what Canadians did in times of war and decided they didn’t want to deal with that crazy shit?

Yeah. “It’s not a war crime the first time” I believe is how it goes.

Apparently we defined a few clauses in the Geneva conventions.

The left broadly throwing away the flag and spitting on the country is what allowed actual political capital to empower the worst people.

Armed groups of dumb patriots are the most powerful force on Earth for political change going back thousands of years.

If we really cared about pushing this thing back on the tracks we would organize, grab American flags, link hands with people we don’t agree with, open-carry AR’s and stop whinging about who has the most inclusive twitter history.

When America’s largest segment and holders of most of the non-billionaire wealth look out at the world and they need to decide who to hand power to, they are faced with two choices: a band of hateful orcs but ones carrying the flag that represents stability and comfort, and promising to fight and die for that flag, or a band of well-meaning but naive youngsters who spit on the flag and demand some kind of abstract change, they make a predictable choice.

The left and progressives broadly want the best outcomes but need to understand power and learn to embrace power. We don’t topple systems without either an army or political capital. What political capital do we have? Where is our army?

I’m proud of the Americans that tore up the southern railroads and wrapped them around trees. I’m proud of Americans who laid down their lives against other Americans to give us the weekend. I’m proud of Americans fighting other Americans for their right to vote.

Being a proud American should be about fighting for the America we were all led to believe we already lived in. Everybody else against that fight shouldn’t get to call themselves American. They should have to call themselves traitors. That’s what we used to call them.

Why proud? What is left to be proud of, I wonder?

Nationalistic sentiments like that are part of the reason why we’re in this mess to begin with. Start being critical of your government today. Never be satisfied with the status quo. Don’t accept the meager good in spite of the overwhelming bad. Fight to change things for the better so that you can say you are proud of the positive change you made in your country, rather than celebrating merely being born or living here.

If a war kicked off, you wouldn’t want to be in Canada. Canada would lose within days. Then it would become a guerrilla war. 100% chance if that happened that Trump would institute collective punishment, killing 1000 Canadians for every American killed by guerrillas.

The most helpful think Americans could do is stay in the US and fight from within. In fact, why wait for the Canada phase to start? Why not actually do something now?

I’m not posting bullshit online about how I’m going to switch to the Canadian side when the war starts.

Oh no Americans! Downvote me harder. Put me in my little Canadian place for pointing out that you’re all liars and Trump is a natural product of your culture.

It’s all my fault that you can’t stand up to daddy trump because I didn’t do the work for you to figure out how you could help.

I’m not going to be encouraging Americans to continue to spout off more sad lies. Do something or shut up about it. You’re all full of hot air and weak as heck.

The war doesn’t need to be fought only on Canadian soil even if occupied. An insurgency on American soil is way easier and makes it too costly to maintain and will force the occupation to end.

My bad. I forgot to add the word only. I fixed it. My point is that in addition to an insurgency on Canadian soil by Canadians, there would also be an insurgency on American soil by people there from around the world. If Canada isn’t safe, no one else is.

The US would find not just Americans, but people from around the world living in the US would find ways to join the insurgency.

All comments like these do is make people even more apathetic, or even actively negative against your perspective. With that attitude and obvious complete lack of an attempt to consider differing perspectives or think of situations where people cannot just uprooted their entire lives in a day. Because you clearly think your assumptions of everyone’s situations are accurate and inalienable the same way those that support Trump believe he’s right.

Since you clearly are willfully trying not to consider alternate perspectives, based on your other responses in this and similar threads, I hope you’re first in the front. If you were the only casualty I’ll be 100% confident that society across the board would be a better place based on your comments here. The same way that disbanding ICE, or removing Trump from office, would be a net positive across the board.

I am responding to someone who said they will 1000% percent defect to Canada, that person is lying. If they are not willing to make personal sacrifice now, they won’t be willing later either.

That’s fun that you wish death upon me. You’ve really shown that you are the bigger person here.

Still doesn’t change the fact that Americans who say they will help later, are full of shit and and will never make personal sacrifices to help others.

Always love the Canadians that don’t see the exact same stuff taking form in their own backyard. You’re just a decade or two away at this rate. I haven’t seen any attempts to shift away despite having Trump and US Republicans to show you the next steps ahead on your trajectory.

Still doesn’t change the fact that Americans who say they will help later, are full of shit and and will never make personal sacrifices to help others.

Ah yes more generalizations with no basis for them other than your feelings. You’re no different than US Republicans there. Feelings and talking down to foreigners are the most important things to spend your time on.

I’d personally love to, but my wife is disabled, we’ve got 3 children with varying degrees of developmental disability requiring me as a round the clock caregiver, and we live off my wife’s disability benefit and other government assistance here. No shot we get in.

Complete non-sequitur, that threat doesn’t just magically give someone more time or resources to “just fight harder 4head” with. If someone has family that literally can’t take care of themselves without them, what happens to that family when that caregiver gets illegally arrested or killed trying to “just fight harder”

Blaming the most vulnerable people for not “fighting harder” is like blaming someone bound to a wheelchair for not being able to stand up on their own.

Why are you proud of something you had no influence in? I was born in Norway, and am glad to have been born here, but I am not proud to have been born here. I had no influence in where I was born, so I don’t feel proud of it, but I feel quite fortunate to have here.

Sweden here. I generally feel an ick when people talk about being proud of their country, or outright patriotism. It smacks too hard of far-right supremacist tendencies to me. It’s why I’ve never been able to really palate the U.S., they’ve always so openly boasted about their own perceived greatness, while blatantly ignoring the falsities of it all.

Obviously there are good things in the U.S., and maybe I’ve always just been a pessimist, but I just don’t get how one can be so self-congratulatory while openly ignoring all the horrors not just of the past, but of present day as well. Had an American roomie, and was absolutely shocked to find out that they actually did a pledge of allegiance daily in his schools. He was unfazed, but to me that’s such 1984-esque dystopian BS.
