The article title is a bit of a misnomer because apparently they only surveyed western Europeans rather than people across Europe. But still it’s interesting.

These survey results appear in the article:

A graph showing the percentages of people in seven European countries who support retaliatory tariffs against the USA. 79% of people in Denmark either support or fully support such tariffs. The other countries listed are Sweden, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, and Italy. Italy has the lowest level of combined support and strong support, at 56%. More details can be seen at the article that this post links to.

The EU has historically been quite targeted when counter-tariffing America. A couple of quotes from this Guardian article:

These tariffs, which target notable US goods worth €4.5bn, often from Republican states, will snap back on 1 April.

      And

“We try to hit … where it hurts,” said a senior EU official, who said the bloc was targeting soya beans, which are grown in Louisiana, the state of the US speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. “We love soybeans, but we’re happy to buy them from Brazil or from Argentina or from anywhere else.”

Hitting the red states feels good, but it won’t help much because they’ll just lap up whatever Trump tells them. If anything tariffing the blue states will result in more action by lighting a fire under the asses of the sane two thirds of America.
